On the evening of last Thursday, October 31st, the Tutorial Education Program – PET Biomedicine of Bahiana held the XXXII Science with Acarajé, at the Cabula Campus, once again involving undergraduate Biomedicine students in a meeting in favor of science and scientific careers. This time, the event's theme was "Professional Performance in Bioimaging", bringing as guests to the round table undergraduate and graduate professors and former students of the Bahiana Edson Marcos Oliveira, Felipe Pitangueira and Constantino Rios. To participate in the event, the students donated one kilo of non-perishable food or 400 grams of powdered milk, the proceeds of which will be sent to the social action Corrente do Bem, which will donate the products to a charity.

The evening opened with a speech by the PET Biomedicine faculty coordinator, Prof. Gabriel Queiroz. "Science with Acarajé is a very large and important event in the academic calendar, because it is non-profit. We are the only Tutorial Education Program in Biomedicine in Brazil that is funded by the Ministry of Education. This is a source of pride for our institution, which fully supports our actions." According to Luccas Lussano, PET Biomedicine student coordinator, Science with Acarajé is one of the program's major highlights. "We plan Science with Acarajé throughout the semester. This time, 14 topics were suggested and the winning topic was Bioimaging, which is a very broad topic and of interest to most students in the course, since it is one of the largest areas of Biomedicine. We also took the opportunity to bring in very strong speakers who are our professors and are references both in Bahia and in Brazil," explained the academic.

The relevance of Science with Acarajé was also celebrated by professor and speaker Constantino Rios, who was one of the founders of PET Biomedicina when he was a student at Bahiana. "It is an honor to return today as a speaker, especially to talk about an area that was my choice from the beginning. It is not an easy path, as it requires a lot of study, which is what is lacking today. It is an area that depends a lot on updating, the market is very demanding, and there are plenty of vacancies, but what is lacking are qualified people. Here, at Bahiana, we have a postgraduate degree in Bioimaging, which is focused on all areas of imaging, and we have a 500-hour internship program, which helps and supports everything the student learns in theory, being one of the best postgraduate courses in Brazil.”
