Physio Student Award

The 8th semester Physiotherapy student, member of the GEPFIR Research Group at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública (EBMSP) and CNP scientific initiation scholarship holder Beatriz Borges Astolpho Borba won 1st place in the Free Theme category of the Bahia Congress of Exercise Cardiology, held on October 17, in Salvador. The project, originating from the Professional Master's Degree in Health Technologies, entitled "Behavior of heart rate variability in people with transthyretin gene mutation" was supervised by professors Cristiane Dias and Francisco Tiago Oliveira de Oliveira.

The study addresses Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy (FAP), a rare and progressive neuromuscular disease caused by a mutation in the transthyretin (TTR) gene, which affects heart rate variability (HRV), an area that is still little explored. The research was carried out at the Specialized Care Service for Rare Diseases (SAEDR) of Bahiana Health, where simple and non-invasive methods were applied to analyze HRV, with the aim of detecting changes early in people with FAP or the TTR mutation. This innovative study stood out for its contribution to the evaluation of HRV, demonstrating the potential of this variable as a tool applied in clinical care and research.

“This study reinforces the relevance of scientific research in the health field and the commitment of Bahiana with academic excellence. Its achievement at the congress highlights the positive impact that scientific work has on the early diagnosis of changes in HRV and on the quality of life of people with FAP”, emphasizes professor Cristiane Dias.
