Bahiana Physics Ed Student Award

Physical Education student Ana Luiza Rêgo Dias won 1st place in the Cineantropometry Award – CESCORF, with the work “Anthropometric Profile of Optimist Class Sailors Best Placed in the 2024 National Ranking”, at the 47th International Symposium on Sports Sciences. The event, considered the most important in Latin America in the areas of sports science, physical activity and health, was organized by the Center for Studies of the Physical Fitness Laboratory of São Caetano do Sul (Celafiscs) and took place from October 10 to 12, in the city of São Paulo.

The academic's work was supervised by Professor Daniell Lima Costa Muniz and developed within the Research Group on Health and Human Performance – GESPH. "This award given to Ana Luiza at the symposium represents, very well, the role that Bahiana has when developing research together with their students. This is an important point that the School promotes, from teaching, extension and research, in a complete, participatory and inclusive way. And our group enriches us a lot, because it is in it that we carry out the teaching process about the scientific world, how to do research and the research itself. And we, teachers, also learn from the students in the meetings and in the research collections", declared Daniell.

"As a coach, I always see the discussion about the body of the Optimist sailor, who is the subject of my research. As a researcher, I decided to investigate – and, obviously, I hoped with all my life that it would have a direct relationship with performance, reinforcing my initial hypothesis. Today, more mature and educated, I breathe a sigh of relief in realizing that there are still factors that are statistically more significant than a 'perfect body', and that preserving the integrity (physical, mental and moral) of our children can be our priority. In this way, in a less aggressive manner, we can lead some of them to the so-called 'path to the medal', or, simply, to be good citizens, which SHOULD be the principle of grassroots sports", reported Ana Luiza on her personal page, on social media.
