A true celebration of science and art kicked off the celebrations of the centenary of Professor Humberto de Castro Lima, with the 14th Researchers Forum and the 24th edition of the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of the Bahiana which took place on October 18th and 19th, occupying practically all the spaces of the Cabula Campus. "The Scientific Exhibition has been going on for 24 years and, in its first edition, Humberto de Castro Lima was here, present, and was a great supporter. The creation of our Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Programs and this Cabula Campus is also due to the professor. So, what we are experiencing here is also part of this legacy. Remembering him is remembering our history, because, as he taught us, our commitment is to the well-being of others, to build a more just society. We need to take joint responsibility for building a better world", declared the rector of the Bahiana at the opening of the Forum.

The event's highlight was the panel "Neuroscience: from assistance to research", which featured the guest speaker Dr. Wilson Savino, coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology in Neuromodulation (INCT-NIM)/Fiocruz-RJ. The program also included a presentation celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the HTLV Center of Bahiana delivered by its founder, Bernardo Galvão, and also by the researcher, recently inaugurated immortal of the Bahia Academy of Sciences and professor of Bahiana Maria Fernanda Grassi, with the presence of members of the HTLVida Association, users of the center. "Today is a day of great happiness, as we celebrate 22 years since the creation of the HTLV Center, which is a creation of assistance, teaching, extension and research. An extremely important factor is the presence of people living with HTLV with us, here today, because they are the subjects of all this. We need to be with them to listen to them and try to minimize their suffering.”

According to the Vice-Rector of Research, Innovation and Stricto Sensu Graduate Studies, Atson Fernandes, the choice of speaker and theme was due to the fact that this is a field of study with great repercussions for the institution. "This year's forum was very special, because we addressed an area of research that has a major social impact on the institution. Within neuroscience, we have the HTLV Center and, with it, its users here today. It was very exciting and really showed the value that the institution has in relation to what it can best give to its surroundings, to Bahian society," said the professor.
