The Multidimensionality of Health Care – this was the theme chosen for the 24th Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana (MCC), which took place on October 18th and 19th, covering a diversity of actions and initiatives, such as the 14st Researchers Forum da Bahiana, the 22nd Scientific and Technological Initiation Conference (PIBICT), workshops, mini-courses, artistic, cultural and popular health tents, a solidarity economy fair, in addition to social responsibility actions for children, young people and the elderly. The official opening took place on the afternoon of October 18th, with a round table discussion with guests Maria Inês da Silva Barbosa, PhD in Public Health (USP) and a pioneer in Public Health for the Black Population in the country, and physiotherapist and PhD in Public Health from UFBA, Vanessa Pataxó, originally from the Pataxó Coroa Vermelha village, in the extreme south of Bahia. The meeting was mediated by Psychology professor Veridiana Machado.

On the occasion, the guests at the table discussed the process of decolonization and the construction of comprehensive health, through respect for the authenticity of the various cosmologies that make up Brazilian culture. The Vice-Rector of Extension of the Bahiana and general coordinator of MCC, Professor Carolina Pedroza de Carvalho Garcia, explains that the choice of the theme aims to provoke reflection in the community of Bahiana how to think about health care beyond academic scientific knowledge. "It is important to think about the different forms of care based on the different ways people live. When we talk about well-being, this is not the same for everyone. If it is not the same for everyone, the process of caring is not the same either. But, for me to identify this process of caring that needs to be unique, I need to understand this multidimensionality of this being and the importance of this care", says the professor. In total, MCC received 724 entries, including students who presented works and those who participated as visitors to the exhibition.

This year, MCC welcomed 22 partner communities, whose presence at the event the pro-rector justifies by the importance of promoting a paradigm shift in the training of healthcare professionals, which states that knowledge should be built with people and not for them. "At MCC, we try to raise awareness on the topic in several ways: with workshops, discussion groups and also with people's participation, which is why this Exhibition has 22 partner communities that are here because they are part of thinking about science and healthcare and for healthcare training. It needs to be with these people and not for these people. So, changing this paradigm is a difficult, complex exercise that requires persistence. And we believe that healthcare and training in healthcare need to be with people. That is why we want the community to be here more and more, and for us to be within the communities, so that we can change the way we think about healthcare, based on this multidimensionality", she concludes.
