Pink October in Bahiana, a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and combating breast cancer, was strengthened by the partnership with the Bahia State Health Department (SESAB), which was present at the institution's Medical Center from October 2 to 11 with its mobile unit to perform free mammogram exams. On all days of the campaign, approximately 140 women aged 40 to 69 who had scheduled an appointment on the “Pink October in Bahia” campaign website were seen. In addition to Bahiana, the points of the campaign were health units, shopping malls and philanthropic institutions such as Mansão do Caminho, Organização do Auxílio Fraterno (OAF) and Lar Harmonia.
This is the second time the Bahiana receives the campaign on its premises, which facilitated access for residents of the health district of Brotas, as was the case of Marilene Santos de Oliveira, 62 years old, who was assisted by the campaign. "Usually we go somewhere and can't find a vacancy. Since I still work, I don't have much time to rush to take the exam. Everything was great! I was very grateful to the girls who are working and for it to be here at Bahiana, made possible because I work nearby", says Marilene.
Resident of Cajazeiras V, Rosana Alves dos Santos, 46 years old, chose the point of Bahiana and says she is satisfied with the campaign. "I've been trying to get a mammogram for a long time and I just couldn't get one. Since I'm the mother of three special needs children, it's hard to get an exam. I was recommended by the Association of Friends of Autistic People to schedule an appointment at Bahiana, so, despite the distance, I came here, but everything is great", declares Rosana.
