2024 LGBT Diversity Award

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública received, on September 5, the Order of Cultural Merit Award for LGBT Diversity, granted by the Gay Group of Bahia (GGB), in a ceremony held at Espaço Xisto Bahia, in Salvador. Representing the institution were the manager of Selection and Development of People, Allana Machado, professor Márcia Sampaio, founder of the Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic for Trans People at Bahiana Health, Professor Carle Porcino, a reference psychologist at this clinic, and the People Development coordinator, Professor Luiza Ribeiro.

The award is given annually during the Bahia LGBT Pride Celebration. In this 16th edition of the award, in addition to the Bahiana, another 30 institutions from various fields were recognized for their notable contributions. "May we, as an institution, inspire other companies to value and consolidate a culture of diversity and create more welcoming environments, promoting equal opportunities for all people," said Allana Machado.

For Professor Luiza Ribeiro, receiving the award, in addition to being an honor for the Bahiana, drives the institution to continue with diversity, equity and inclusion actions. "Receiving the Order of Cultural Merit Award for LGBT Diversity is an honor for us, because it means that such an important entity in our city and in our country, such as the GGB, recognizes that Bahiana is carrying out work on inclusion and respect for diversity, and this even changes the current view of health. Health needs to be inclusive and respect diversity. For us, especially for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of Bahiana, is an incentive for us to continue with actions for the LGBTQIAPN+ population. Today, we increasingly have representation in strategic locations within the institution and with students, which also humanizes our training process", emphasized the People Development coordinator.
