A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública was the main venue for the III International Congress of Professional Masters in Psychology, which brought together hundreds of academics from August 22 to 24, at the Cabula Campus. The opening of the event took place in a hybrid format, with a live broadcast on YouTube, to discuss the theme "Research and practice networks in psychology: contexts of care". The opening conference was held on Thursday night (22) by the president of the Federal Council of Psychology, Pedro Paulo Bicalho, who, on the occasion, spoke about the importance of psychology in the construction of public policies and the promotion of mental health. The president of the congress and coordinator of the Professional Masters in Psychology and Health Interventions of the Bahiana Mônica Daltro, the institution's rector Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, FAPESB president Handerson Leite, the pro-rector of Research, Innovation and Stricto Sensu Graduate Studies Atson Fernandes, the deputy coordinator of the Psychology area at CAPES Gerson Yukio Tomanari, among other authorities. The 3rd edition of the congress had 310 participants and 182 classified and presented papers, in addition to 16 speakers from Brazilian universities, Portugal and Canada.
"The organizations promoting this congress have fought with courage and utopia for a powerful psychology, practiced with ethics, social responsibility and commitment to the plurality of sciences and existences", Mônica Daltro pointed out in her opening speech, emphasizing the event's commitment to promoting a greater contribution from academia to the practice of the Psychology profession, as well as to fostering the exchange of knowledge about how it has circulated in different professional fields. "It is 2024 and we have more than half a million Psychology professionals registered and qualified to work in Brazil. This growth comes from the challenges imposed by Brazilian psychology", highlighted Pedro Paulo Bicalho.
The second day of the congress opened with a presentation by actress Rita Assemany who, accompanied by guitarist Rudnei Monteiro, presented a pocket version of her show, "Chiquita com Dendê", welcoming the congress participants in a Bahian style. The general program of the congress included panels that discussed topics such as "Public Policies, Violence and Vulnerabilities", in which the professor of Bahiana, Carle Porcino, spoke about the work of the outpatient clinic for trans people, in Bahiana Health; "Psychosocial Factors in Educational Contexts", with the participation of Professor Milena Lisboa who addressed the subtheme, “Suicide: possible dialogues between schools and health units”; in addition to the panels "Psychosocial Factors in the Work Context" and "Health and Well-Being Promotion" with the participation of important names in psychology linked to national and international professional master's programs. The event ended with the awarding of the best works.
