A moment of reunion for some and the beginning of a cycle for others. This was the atmosphere of the inaugural class of the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate programs at Bahiana which took place on the morning of August 2nd, at the Cabula Campus. The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of the rector of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, alongside the dean of Research, Innovation and Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Atson Fernandes, the superintendent of Institutional Relations at Bahiana and national president of the Brazilian Association of Technological Research and Innovation Institutions, Dr. Diego Menezes and the representative of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTI) Márcia Sales, in addition to the coordinators of the institution's Master's and Doctorate programs.

In her welcoming words, Dr. Maria Luisa highlighted the responsibility of the researcher towards social and political issues. "Doing science is not a neutral thing. Let us be teachers, scientists, but, above all, let us be responsible citizens in developing what we consider important to improve our society", stated the dean of Bahiana. The program of the inaugural class had, in its first moment, the speech of the deputy coordinator of the courses in the area of ​​Medicine I at CAPES, Dr. Fernanda Maia, and the coordinator of the area of ​​Medicine II (CAPES), Dr. Carlos Antônio Caramori, which had as its theme "Research and technological development in Brazil: the importance of postgraduate studies, challenges and opportunities".

In a second moment, the faculty of the Bahiana participated in the meeting "Dialogue with CAPES: teacher's responsibility in the Stricto Sensu Program", with CAPES representatives, and the students participated in the workshop "Challenges and opportunities for young researchers in the 21st Century". For the academic of the Professional Master's Degree in Psychology and Health Interventions, Beatriz Cajaíba Santana, says that, as a graduate of the institution, the courses offered by Bahiana always interested her. "The proposals of the Bahiana They always attracted me because of the teaching and the teachers. It's always good to be back at our house. In this first moment, it was very important to be here to learn more about the challenges that the young researcher will face, as well as getting to know a little about the teaching staff who are in charge of the programs", he declares.
