Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Health Training is the theme of the News from Bahiana 2024.2

“When we enter the healthcare field, we enter to learn how to take better care of others and ourselves!” This was what he said in his opening speech at the Freshmen's Reception of undergraduate courses at the Bahiana 2024.2, the People Development coordinator, Prof. Luiza Ribeiro. O New from Bahiana, as the meeting is called, had as its guiding theme "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Health Training" and took place on August 2nd, remotely, on the institution's official YouTube channel.

The meeting was mediated by the manager of the Psychopedagogical Care Center, Angélica Mendes, and by the coordinator of the Common Core and professor Dr. Luciana Oliveira, representing the coordinators of the undergraduate courses, who explained that the center is made up of the basic curricular components for health training, therefore common to all courses.

On the occasion of the remote meeting, the creation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at Bahiana, which is composed of multidisciplinary teams. "The idea is to think about actions so that we can disseminate this culture in our institution. The DE&I policy is being installed and we already have concrete actions such as affinity groups, one ethnic-racial and the other LGBT. In addition, we have a teaching-assistance clinic for trans people", said Luiza Ribeiro, who drew the freshmen's attention to the importance of responding to the Census for Diversity, so that new diversity, equity and inclusion actions can be considered. To talk about affinity groups, professors from the Biomedicine course Luís Sergio Nunes and the Medicine course Patrícia Chaves were invited.
