The cardiologist and professor of the Medicine course at Bahiana, Dr. Gilson Feitosa Filho is the newest member of the Bahia Academy of Medicine. In a ceremony held on the night of June 18, in the Noble Hall of the Faculty of Medicine, in Salvador, he received his degree and became chair number 36, the place that his father, Dr. Gilson Feitosa, also a cardiologist, held. held, becoming, in 2023, an emeritus member of the institution. Dr. Gilson Feitosa Filho's approval was made through careful evaluation by eminent peers from the Academy, after presentation of a memorial, curriculum vitae and original research.

“Entering the illustrious Academy of Medicine of Bahia, precisely in the Chair previously occupied by those who guided my path throughout my life, is a reason for indescribable joy and emotion. My heart and that of all my family and friends are celebrating”, said the doctor, highlighting that the Academy's mission is to study and discuss issues of high relevance to medicine, in addition to supporting and stimulating medical education and research. “It is difficult to express everything that represents the School Bahiana of Medicine for me, on this journey to the Academy and in my own life. I graduated in the beloved Class of 1999 and, since freshman year, I have always expressed my dream of one day teaching at that school where I attended wonderful years of my life. After a period away from Bahia, upon returning, I enjoyed the long-awaited and joyful contact with the most different undergraduate and postgraduate classes at my beloved School. Entering the Academy without remembering these thousands of students and former students would not make any sense. A Bahiana, to the students and colleagues, my eternal gratitude”, declared Professor Gilson.

Gilson Feitosa Filho has a PhD in Sciences from USP, professor of translation and postgraduate studies at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, full professor of Medicine at Faculdade Zarns, in addition to holding the position of head of the Cardiology Service at Hospital Santa Izabel, where he works as professor of the Medical Clinic and Cardiology residencies and as coordinator of multicenter research in cardiology. He also has nearly 150 scientific publications, including international journals such as Lancet Circulation, Journal of American Heart Associotiom and Lipids.
