Reflect on causal inference in scientific reading. This was one of the objectives of the Internal Research Seminar, held on August 26, at Campus Brotas da Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública. The multidisciplinary and inter-institutional activity was promoted by the Motor Behavior and Neurofunctional Rehabilitation Research Group and was also a moment of preparation for the VII Brazilian Congress of Physiotherapy (COBRAFIN), which takes place from September 6th to 9th, in Fortaleza, whose program includes a presentation of scientific works developed by the group.

The meeting involved professors of the Professional Master's Degree in Health Technologies, undergraduate students of Medicine and Physiotherapy, postgraduate courses at Bahiana and UFBA and UNEB undergraduates, in addition to having professionals from the Stroke Unit at Hospital Roberto Santos. The main lecture of the seminar was conducted with excellence by Prof. Dr. Jamary Oliveira Filho, professor at UFBA and collaborating researcher of the Research Group, which with the title “Causal inference in scientific reading”, enabled discussions and reflections relevant to the critical development of scientific thinking.

The program included the presentation of an experience report, which highlighted the participation of the Research Group in the international multicenter study “A Very Early Rehabilitation Trial” (AVERT DOSE), coordinated by Australian researcher Julie Bernhardt. This is one of the most important studies aimed at testing interventions that aim to improve the recovery of people after stroke. The researcher responsible for the AVERT BAHIANA team is the leader of the Research Group, Dr. Élen Beatriz Pinto, in an important partnership involving Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública and the UAVC team at Hospital Geral Roberto Santos.
