Even though it was rainy in the morning, the sun came out and last Sunday (12/03) there was a sea bath at Praia de Ondina, marking the end of the 2023 edition of ParaPraia. The event had the special participation of the athlete, sponsored by Bahiana, Renê Pereira, Paralympic rowing medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Renê is a graduate of the Medicine course and, whenever he can, participates in ParaPraia and other actions of the institution. "I'm here today to celebrate that people who find it very difficult to enter the sea, due to accessibility, have this moment. So ParaPraia is a project that is making the population aware of the need for this initiative of assisted bathing in the sea", scored Renê.
In this 2023 edition, ParaPraia was held on February 25th and 26th and March 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th, always at Praia de Ondina. Over these six days, the project enabled approximately 330 assisted sea baths. Many of the bathers were present for more than one day, making the most of the opportunity. Bahiana has been acting as technical manager since the first edition of ParaPraia, training volunteers and providing teachers and employees so that the action takes place in a safe, inclusive and responsible way. The project also has partnerships with the Municipal Secretariat for Social Promotion, Combating Poverty, Sports and Leisure (SEMPRE) and several private sector companies.
"We are finishing our eighth edition with this feeling of gratitude. So we thank: our dean, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, for her unconditional encouragement to the project, and all the course coordinators, pro-rectors and volunteers, who were more of 300, in these six days of promoting health and citizenship, through inclusion". That was the message from the Dean of Extension, Prof. Carolina Pedroza. This edition of ParaPraia was technically responsible for the coordinator of the Physiotherapy course, Prof. Dr. Luciana Bilitário, and coordinator of volunteers Prof.ª Dra. Luciana Oliveira, coordinator of the Common Nucleus of undergraduate courses at Bahiana.
Recognition was due to the various extension programs developed by the institution.
Bahiana has participated in all editions as technical manager of the project.
