The Dean of Extension of the Bahiana, Prof. Carolina Pedroza, represented the institution at the event that marked the creation of the Bahia Peripheries Health Forum, which took place on January 23, at the Milton Santos auditorium, at the Center for Afro-Oriental Studies at UFBA. Activists, researchers, representatives of Fiocruz Bahia, Fiocruz Rio de Janeiro and social organizations from Salvador, Metropolitan Region and other municipalities in the state also participated in the ceremony.

The purpose of the forum is to propose public policies aimed at the health of the population living in the periphery, in addition to directly influencing existing policies and promoting improvements in services provided to society. "A Bahiana is part of the Health Forum of the Peripheries of Bahia representing the segment of higher education institutions. In the Forum, professors and students of the Bahiana will be able to contribute to the development of projects related to training, promotion and research in health, built in partnership with teaching, research and social control institutions participating in the Forum", explains Carolina Pedroza.

According to the dean, the Bahiana, through extension actions of socio-environmental responsibility, works in partnership with different communities and social movements, in order to dialogue and develop activities that meet the health needs of these communities, together with different social actors. "In this sense, the participation of Bahiana at the Bahia Periphery Health Forum reinforces the institutional commitment to contribute to the social transformation of communities residing in the peripheries, through collective health actions, considering the expanded concept of health of the SUS", he points out.
