Origin:  Brazil

popular names: faveira, sombrero or palheteira.

Natural occurrence: Northern states, Amazonas, Pará and Maranhão to Tocantins.

Features: is a medium to large tree species, with a wide and leafy crown. Due to the peculiar configuration of the floral pieces, which resembles the female anatomical organ, it receives the generic name of “clitoria”.

Usage: It is used in civil construction, as an ornamental plant, in reforestation and recovery of degraded areas, as green manure and in agroforestry systems. Other than that, it has antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antifungal activities, it is used both in medicine and in the production of drugs.
