Committee Bahiana Verde visits Parque das Dunas

The meeting aimed to establish a partnership between the two institutions.

To strengthen ties in order to enable research and extension actions in the largest urban source of the dune, lagoon and sandbank ecosystem in the country. That was the objective of the visit made by the coordinator of People Development and president of the Committee Bahiana Verde, Professor Luiza Ribeiro, to Parque das Dunas, on May 24th. The group also included the coordinator of the Common Core, Prof. Luciana Oliveira; the coordinator of the Interprofessional Health Program, Lavínia Boaventura; professors Artur Gomes Dias Lima (Biomedicine and Nursing), Edson Felix (Biomedicine) and Sidney Carlos de Jesus Santana (Biomedicine), and professors Léa Maria do Santos Lopes Ferreira (Biomedicine), Juliana Lima Spínola (Biomedicine and Bahiana Verde) and Patrícia Alcântara (Common Nucleus).

The visit allowed the group to get to know Parque da Dunas, in order to study possibilities to establish a partnership with the Bahiana, with the aim of promoting socio-environmental and public health actions, in teaching-learning and acculturation processes, having the practical experience of visiting Parque das Dunas as a laboratory. "For us Bahiana, through the program Bahiana Verde, which is responsible for implementing the policy of sustainability and care for the environment, this partnership will be very important. We understand that Parque das Dunas presents itself as a very important educational space, and that we from the Bahian and Salvadoran community need to get to know it and take responsibility for it", declared Luiza Ribeiro, who already has perspectives for carrying out activities in the park, for middle of Bahiana VerdeIn 2023.

Professor Sidney Santana says that the relationship between Bahiana and Parque das Dunas already takes place in the academic sphere, through field activities. "Our partnership with it has been going on for a long time. There we do some activities with our students because it is a park that consists of an environmental complex that is based on sustainability guidelines and is also geared towards the environment and ecotourism. So we take our students from the Biomedicine course to do the interpretive trails, where we have a field class". He explains that the visit allows for a better study of the park's biome, enabling a comparison with the biome in which Campus Cabula is located. "We collect litter to identify the micro- and macro-organisms that are present there in that soil to carry out the decomposition. We compare this material with the litter material on our campus, where we also collect. see the differences between the organisms that are found in the two biomes", he explains.

The Parque Municipal das Dunas de Salvador is a natural reserve that comprises an area of ​​6 million and 900 thousand m².
