XXVII Ciência com Acarajé discusses “Consequences of the use of some drugs in weight loss”

About 40 million children under 5 years of age and 340 million children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 years are overweight or obese. The data were presented at the XXVII Ciência com Acarajé, held on the night of May 5, and which, this time, had as its theme "Consequences of the use of some drugs in weight loss". The subject was presented by the guest speaker, Professor Tércio Ramos (Bahiana/UNEB). The event was broadcast live on the official channel of Bahiana, YouTube.

Science with Acarajé, which takes place every six months, is an initiative of the Tutorial Education Program (PET) of the Biomedicine course at Bahiana, coordinated by Professor Sidney Santana. The event was organized by the academic members of PET/Biomedicine.

In his speech, Prof. Tércio Ramos explained how hunger and satiety processes take place, how drugs act in the body and also commented on the case of the singer of Banda Calcinha Preta, Claudinha Abelha, who died in February of this year with a non-specific lesion, but compatible with drug-induced liver injury. According to the speaker, the singer was constantly using 18 medications.
