A partnership between Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública and the Sports Science Department of the Brazilian Paralympic Center (CPB) made it possible to carry out an exchange program involving four students from the Physical Education course. From the 11th to the 16th of April, the academics of Bahiana were able to visit the CPB facilities, learn about new technologies applied to the assessment of physical capacities and the development of the performance of athletes who train at the Center. During the days, the group of exchange students was also able to learn about the use of different equipment, in addition to talking about technical-scientific content with coaches and physical trainers.

For José Victor Pereira Ribeiro, academic in the 4th semester of Physical Education, the exchange was very fruitful. "It's amazing how what we study at graduation, in research groups and in events promoted by Bahiana is really put into practice when it comes to high performance.” For the student, the visit to the CPB promoted a fruitful experience as they were all in contact with health managers and parathletes. “It was possible to perceive the complex and collective way in which they work so that the country can obtain excellent results in competitions. It was worth dedicating yourself and investing in knowledge in your training. And this was only possible with the encouragement of the coordinator and teachers of the Bahiana. I strongly recommend the participation of students in this program", declares José Vitor.

According to 8th semester student Ronaldo Fiuza Borges Júnior, participating in the exchange program provided a great professional and personal experience. “I was very delighted with the infrastructure and the cutting-edge/gold standard technologies – things that we see and study, in books or on the internet, and that existed there in person. I am so grateful for the opportunity given to me!”, he declares.

Among the benefits of participating in the exchange program promoted by the partnership, the coordinator of the Physical Education course at Bahiana, Professor Clarcson Plácido, highlights the development of skills in different areas of sport science, the promotion of networking with professionals from different sports who work with Paralympic athletes, in addition to access to advanced and innovative technologies used in the evaluation and development of performance of athletes. "It is also worth mentioning the access to the physical, logistical and human resources structure of a large high performance training center and the development of the perception about the performance in a multiprofessional team that works with high performance athletes", concludes Plácido.
