Dear students,

Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19, the BAHIANA has advocated that students in care activities with direct contact with patients should be vaccinated immediately. This is in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Government of the State of Bahia, which included students in the health area in the priority group. Furthermore, considering that these students are working side by side with other health professionals in serving our population, we believe that immediate vaccination of this group is necessary and consistent with the National Immunization Program (PNI), not only as a promotion of protection individual of each student, but also as a fundamental strategy in the fight against the pandemic.

However, it is necessary to understand that the BAHIANA has no management over the vaccination program and that responsibility lies with the Municipal Health Department (SMS). We need to recognize that the municipality of Salvador and SMS have made a huge effort to follow the PNI, even more so in the current context of vaccine shortages. We are SMS partners and we are willing to cooperate with whatever is necessary. In fact, since February 4, 2021, our campus of Brotas turned into a major vaccination point.

Finally, dear students, we ask for a little patience, as we believe that very soon we will all be vaccinated. It is our commitment to continue demanding that you be vaccinated as soon as possible. We hope you know and believe that the BAHIANA is with you, fighting for Public Health and the SUS.

Salvador, February 5, 2021.
