Medical students from Bahiana are awarded by the Academy of Medicine of Bahia

Medical students at the Bahiana André Luiz Freitas de Oliveira Junior e João Victor MP de Oliveira were awarded the prize Professor Doctor Roberto Santos, awarded by the Academy of Medicine of Bahia. The young people won two of the three vacancies competing for the award for developing the best Course Completion Papers (TCCs) in graduation in the State of Bahia. The award-giving session took place on December 17th, at 19pm, virtually, and was broadcast live on the Zoom Meeting platform.

Graduates are members of the Acute Coronary Syndromes Research Group at Bahiana (RESCA), coordinated by prof. Dr. Luís Cláudio Correia Lemos. The work entitled "Accuracy of Heuristic Judgment in Prediction of Coronary Artery Disease in Patients with Acute Chest Pain" is authored by André Luiz and was selected in 1st place for the award. Student João Victor won third place with the research “Validation of an artificial intelligence algorithm for the diagnostic prevention of coronary heart disease in patients with acute chest pain – comparison with the traditional statistical model”. Students received certificate and medal.

During the event, the acad. Dr. Bernardo Galvão (professor at Bahiana) presented the report of the judging committee. As for the meaning of the award, Professor Bernardo revealed that the occasion is “a stimulus to good science”. The academic Dr. Maria Luisa Soliani (dean of Bahiana) also pointed out the role of academia in universalizing science and promoting scientific literacy in society. Prof. Dr. Luiz Cláudio Correia, who was present at the ceremony, highlighted how inspiring it is to experience young people from the institution as protagonists in the Academy of Medicine of Bahia, a space occupied by doctors who have conquered prominent positions in their careers. "The award represents the great scientific potential of the students and reinforces the quality and level of excellence of the institution", emphasized Dr. Luiz Cláudio when talking about the importance of giving visibility to the new generation of doctors, as they will guide the future of Medicine.
