Diversity in programming is highlighted at the 4th Maze Congress

The event featured lectures, cultural and scientific panels, as well as workshops for parents and people with autism.

"The Labyrinth Congress takes place this year in this particular situation. Everyone is practicing social isolation and, in this context, we are looking for alternatives for socialization, sharing our domestic space with our work and our social world." These were the opening words uttered by the physician and psychiatrist Milena Pereira Pondé, coordinator of the 4th Maze Congress that takes place from 12th to 17th october and this year it is being carried out online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, the Labyrinth Congress brought as a differential in its programming workshops for parents and people with autism, developed and monitored by professionals qualified in the subject. "This is a new activity that we are doing this year and, in addition, we are also bringing the cultural panel and the scientific panel", highlighted Pondé. According to her, the program includes speakers from several Brazilian states, as well as guests from Portugal, England, France, Italy and the United States.

  The opening ceremony was broadcast on the official channel of the Bahiana, on YouTube, and had the participation of the institution's dean, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, and the event coordinators, psychologists Daniele Wanderley and Gustavo Siquara.

Maria Luisa highlighted the importance of the event at the national level. "A congress like this is important because it brings precious things like uniting people who believe in science. This congress works with issues of diversity, of opening up to each other and of being all together in a solidary way. I believe this is one a very big and very important event for Brazil today and, for sure, it will mark the events that bring this theme".

To mark the beginning of the program, the conference "The borders between medical knowledge and medicalization: the autism paradigm" was held, with Dr. Mário Eduardo Pereira. The guest speaker is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and full professor in clinical psychopathology at the Aix-Marseille Université and associate professor in psychopathology at the Dpto. of Psychiatry at FCM-UNICAMP, as well as director of the Laboratory of Psychopathology: Subject and Singularity (LaPSuS - UNICAMP).
