Jameb reaches the 5th edition
Event gathered around 230 participants

The Cabula Campus of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública was transformed into a true hub for the study of Anatomy, during the V Journey of Medical Anatomy of Bahia – Jameb, which took place from September 26th to 28th and offered to participants 7 pre-journey courses, 31 Anatomy classes and exchange of experiences between 24 speakers and about 230 students. The opening ceremony was marked by the magna conference "Death exists to be recognized", given by former student and current palliative care physician, Dr. Sílber Rodrigues Alvez. The professor and coordinator of the journey, Dr. Rinaldo Antunes Barros, and the professor and Dr. Eliana de Paula, representing the professor and coordinator of the Medicine course, Dr. Ana Verônica Mascarenhas, were present.

According to Dr. Eliana de Paula, the participation of students in the Jameb organization contributes to the construction of its hidden curriculum: "When I see the participation of our students in such a dynamic way, developing their potential before the organization, it is an experience for life. These are secondary gains for the training of medical professionals. This country needs good leaders... And where to train these leaders if not in school?"

Professor Rinaldo explains that, this year, the journey proposed the relationship of human anatomy with life and its terminality, in order to make participants reflect on the cost-conscious attitude and on how it is ethically possible to maintain this conduct during the care of a terminally ill patient: "Jameb is already in its 5th edition, and this year, we are discussing, as a central axis, the human anatomy and the terminality of life. In view of this, we open a reflection about how far we can go, about what we look for when we want to provide better care to our patients. For this, the idea was promoted of making our students think about themselves and, from there, start taking care of others by putting themselves in their place".

For Gabriel Monteiro, a 2nd semester student of Medicine, the journey was very interesting and instigated his knowledge of anatomy: "We are seeing things that are very relevant for students in the basic cycle of Medicine, they are things that we would not even see in the classroom ". For Julia Pereira, also from the 2nd semester of Medicine, Jameb's contents are very different from those seen in the classroom: "Here we go much further in terms of contents. It gives a greater notion of what it is to be a doctor".
