High school students get to know the health areas through a project from Bahiana
Students from Colégio Nossa Senhora da Luz participated in the Bahiana for one day.

With practical experiments, explanations and fun activities, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública received the Our Lady of Light College, located in Pituba, for another edition of Bahiana for a day, in the afternoon of the day October 02. Third-year high school students learned about the health areas through the institution's course presentation circuit.

The visit itinerary began in the morphofunctional science laboratory, with the monitors of the Medicine course. The objective was to present the Medicine course and expose the systems of the human body, according to the evolution of the curricular components. Then, the students were able to learn about the nursing course from Professor Cristiane Magali, who highlighted the importance of caring in the nursing profession and how academic life helps in this process.

The manager of the Dental Center, Lísia Oliveira, explained how the unit works. The professor of the Physical Education course, Paulo Rodrigo, explained the paths that Physical Education proposes for the integral treatment of health, through integrative practices.

Professor Rodrigo pointed out that these moments are very interesting to bring potential students closer to the university. “Elucidating the benefits that Physical Education provides to society in terms of intervention and realizing how this can be developed in university education is a topic that needs to be highlighted since graduation in high school”, concludes the professor. In order to understand the profession, physiotherapist Eulália Barros taught, through a practical activity, how the professional in the area works.

Psychologist Laissa Liguori, former student of Bahiana, addressed the myths and truths of Psychology and stressed that the project is very interesting because it allows high school students to have contact with the health professions: “It is even more rewarding for former students who participate in the activity, because of this form, affection and training that the institution offers during graduation can be reciprocated”.

The Microscopy activity was carried out at the Laboratory of Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences, under the supervision of the biomedical doctor and former student of the Bahiana, Emily Figueiredo. The objective of this action was to demonstrate, in practice, how the Biomedicine course works.

The high school pedagogical coordinator, Kátia Eliana Sousa, highlights that the visit is part of the professional guidance circuit that the school develops in partnership with higher education institutions and that the Bahiana it is always present on these occasions. The coordinator points out that Colégio Nossa Senhora da Luz will also participate in the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition that takes place this week, on October 8th and 9th.

For the third-year student, Lucas Almendra, the experience was enriching, as “the quality of the materials presented and the academic structure, as well as the attention that the professionals paid to the students, made the visit enchanting”, reveals the student.
