It was in style and with a lot of culture that the August of the Arts turned ten years old. The 10th edition, organized by the Psychopedagogical Care Center (NAPP) of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, took place on August 20 and 22, at Campus Brotas, and August 27, at Campus Cabula. The event included the presentation of musical attractions, an exhibition of handicrafts and photographs, a gourmet catwalk and a bookstore, in addition to art, dance, drawing and painting workshops.

Angélica Mendes, coordinator of the NAPP, who has headed the artistic initiative since the beginning, highlighted the importance of the meeting: “Ten years of August of the Arts means a very important movement from the point of view of cultural interdisciplinarity in Bahiana. Previously, there was the difficulty for the student to occupy space beyond the classroom and this bothered us. So, we saw, in this meeting, an opportunity for integration between the entire community of the institution and a form of expression and to transform our environment into a more interactive space, in which everyone can present their talent as they wish”.

Stories were also remembered during the event. The People Development Coordinator at Bahiana, Luiza Ribeiro, reflected on the beginning of this cultural project. “It's a space designed many years ago by NAPP, where I originated here at Bahiana, in 2000. I was coordinator of the NAPP for three years, until 2008, and the center has always sought to promote mental health through different languages, in addition to the traditional and also efficient, individual assistance to the student. In turn, the Bahiana it is a place that understands that art heals, unites, brings together and favors people. With that, Agosto das Artes has the functions of promoting mental health, integration and relaxation, through artistic expression”, he said.

The event had several exhibitors, such as: Hanahí – ecological solutions: bottles, straws and ecological utensils; Ari Brigs – brigadeiros gourmets; Ane Vasconcelos: pies, sweets and cakes from pots; Neuma Ramos: gourmet pudding; Academic Cognitive Behavioral and Sexuality and Gender Leagues; and Encanto Afro: collaborative store of African handicrafts – handbags, shirts, sandals, notebooks and highlighters with African prints, produced by hand.

Encanto Afro entrepreneur Jucy Ramos shared her satisfaction at being part of the meeting: “Last year I participated, for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. This year, our store was invited again, and it is gratifying to be here and show our work, which is a business with the purpose of enhancing the African roots and inserting this artistic movement into the daily lives of the Bahian population”.

students of Bahiana were very present at Agosto das Artes. Vanessa Ramos, a medical student who exhibited her work in books with covers of manual drawings of human body organs and bracelets, said how grateful she was: “It's really cool for us to be able to show people what we do, as we receive feedback positives and negatives and it helps to build our art and make it better. I feel very happy to be here.”

The afternoons dedicated to art had a free stage, on which students and employees got together to play and sing, with no registration required, which provided even more integration among the participants. There was also a free canvas for students and staff to paint and decorate in their own way. The screen became a collective work.

Pedagogical supervisor Patrícia Argollo was proud of her son, psychologist Max Victor Argollo, as she saw him exhibiting his paintings and drawings: “I am immensely happy to witness this moment and grateful to Bahiana for providing this wonderful artistic space”.

The sixth semester student of Physiotherapy, Ana Beatriz Rodrigues, is doing an internship in Orthopedics and was invited to perform the wind therapy on the participants during the event. She explained how the treatment works: “It's an alternative medicinal method that uses cups. The application of wind therapy, during the August of the Arts, contributes to making the moment more pleasant and relaxing for the people who are participating”.

One of the main objectives of Agosto das Artes, the integration between all members of the Bahiana, could be noticed in practice, during every day of the event. Beatriz Lino, a second semester student in Psychology, told how she enjoyed every moment of this tenth edition: “I was able to honor the musical presentation of my friends, the gourmet runway, the drawings and paintings. I'm very interested in arts and I consider the action very good for us to get out of the study routine and interact with other students. It is a way to encourage union and socialization”.
