VIII Physiotherapy Research Journey

Share

“Research Methods in Physiotherapy: ways of building knowledge from uncertainties, probabilities and rare evidence” – this was the theme of the VIII Physiotherapy Research Journey, held by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, on the 26th and 27th of October, at Campus Cabula. The meeting also marked the launch of the book “Scientific Methodology applied to Physiotherapy – Uncertainties, Probabilities and Rare Evidence”.

The opening of the event was marked by the presentation of flamenco dancers from the company As Bailaoras, from Casa de Sapateado Rachel Cavalcanti, under the direction of teacher Ila Vita. The opening table was attended by the dean of Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, from the coordinator of the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana, Luciana Bilitário, of the president of the Conference and manager of the Scientific Communication Center, Dr. Kátia Sá and guest professors Pedro Dal Lago, who is associate professor III of the Department of Physiotherapy at the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre (UFCSPA) , and the vice president of CREFITO, Suely Maia Galvão Barreto.

According to Dr. Maria Luisa, the Journey is a milestone for the Bahiana and for universities, especially for being dedicated to scientific research, given the political moment in Brazil. “It is very important to reinforce that we have reached the 8th journey, as it is the result of a journey that began as a first step in research – in the school as a whole – and in Physiotherapy, in particular. This journey is an example of how much we have grown”, he adds.

The professor and researcher reinforces the approach to the current political moment, when he highlights the cuts in investments suffered by research institutes: “We have, in recent years, suffered from the lack of investments in the research and education sectors, but we believe that this everything can improve. However, we need to join efforts and thoughts to be able to resume investment in innovation and research. So events like this are fundamental for us not only to be able to discuss advances in the area of science, but also to be able to talk and reflect on the future of physiotherapy and research, which are fundamental for the country's development”.

Kátia Sá explains that one of the objectives of the journey is precisely to strengthen one of the differentials of the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana which is the great incentive for research: “Since the 1st semester, the student already knows that he will have to join research groups and participate in some way. He does not arrive at the research only at the TCC, at the end of the course. It is somehow included in every semester through the 'Knowledge Production' axis. The Journey is the moment when we try to deepen and mature”. She also points out as a differential of this edition the launch of the book “Scientific Methodology applied to Physiotherapy – Uncertainties, Probabilities and Rare Evidence”, which she is the organizer along with professor Cristiane Maria Carvalho Costa Dias: “In our schedule, we brought together some authors to deepen the themes that are in the book, through round tables held on the first day of activities".

On Saturday, a web conference was held with the professor of Medicine, Luís Cláudio Correa, and, as a result, the 17 scientific works of the selected researchers were presented.

AWARDS

During the journey, the following works were awarded:

1º Location: “Cortical excitability in individuals with reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament by Thayná Oliveira da Silva.

2º Location: “Lung function in HTLV-infected patients” by Igor Alonso Andrade de Oliveira.

3 place: Comparison of continuous moderate exercise with HIIT in the variables of ergospirometry in patients with coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis by Paula Guerra Duplat.

The Physiotherapy Journey was born with the purpose of strengthening the research groups of the Bahiana in this field of health. The event has already become a local reference in the academic environment and diversifies activities that encourage the development of scientific research in this area of knowledge, through conferences, round tables, debates, presentation of free themes and research papers. The target audience is formed by professionals, professors and students of Physiotherapy.
