The eighteenth edition of the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana (MCC) had several activities focused on social responsibility. In the tent “Popular Health Education of Bahiana”, two rounds of conversations were held about women, race relations, health and sexuality, mediated by teachers Karine Santana and Arlene Alves. In the “Satellite of Integrative and Complementary Practices: individual and collective care” tent, body exercises were displayed and in the space for playful interaction, the focus was on the family relationship.

The guests at the Popular Education in Health tent were: Juli Ferreira de Oliveira, from the Tupinambá People of Salvador; the teacher Anna Amélia Farias (Bahiana); Débora Santos, from the Mundo Capoeira International Group, and a student at Bahiana; Lilian Marinho (UNEB and Feminist Network) and representatives of the Center for Studies and Research in Gender, Race and Health (NEGRAS – UFRB, UFBA and Bahiana) and the Academic League of Sexuality and Gender (LASG).

Juli Ferreira de Oliveira discussed the health of indigenous women: “Often, the diversity of women and their origins are not taken into account at the time of medical examinations. Health professionals increasingly need to study which interventions can be made in society that focus on respecting cultural diversity”.

Professor Renata Roseghini was responsible for the tent of Complementary Integrative Practices in Health (PICS), which had aromatherapy, auriculotherapy, reiki and foot reflexology activities. These practices are used in treatments with the purpose of helping the patient to get to know their body and understand the healing process of various diseases.

Psychology teacher Izabella Queiroz led the “Playful Interaction” tent, which mediated actions aimed at the family, with games for children and visual tasks. She explains how this tent was conceived: “This action we are doing today is an extension of the participant observation work carried out by Psychology students, in the outpatient clinic of the Campus Brotas. We work with the concept of humanization in health, through playful activities with patients. This year, we partnered with the Academic League Bahiana of Pediatric Dentistry (LABOP). We divided our activity as follows: the Pediatric Dentistry group started with playful practices, and the Psychology students performed peripheral observation”.

Mini-classes on stress reduction strategies, a life project workshop with teenagers and a lecture on Oral Health education, aimed at children from the Álvaro da Franca Rocha Municipal Child Education Center, were also part of the social responsibility actions promoted at MCC .

Trailer Bahiana Health
MCC also had a trailer for the Bahiana Saúde, which carried out free dental evaluations, carried out by Dr. Humberto Bastos. Lísia Oliveira, manager of the Dental Center at Bahiana, explains how this action is significant for the institution: “This stand is intended to publicize the services of the Bahiana Health, which are the services that Bahiana offers beyond education. We brought the trailer for dental care, where our dentist Humberto Bastos is carrying out an assessment to find out what the patient needs and recommend which oral treatments are necessary”.
