The chosen days opened the National Week of Commemoration of Nursing, held from May 12th to 20th.

The opening table was attended by the dean of the undergraduate and graduate courses of the Bahiana Maria de Lourdes Gomes, from the acting coordinator of the Simone Passos Nursing course and from the professor and coordinator of the event Ana Shirley Maranhão Vieira.

“Nursing and its Areas of Performance”, the main theme of this edition of the Journey, was highlighted by Professor Maria de Lourdes Gomes, who related it to the university tripod: teaching, research and extension, emphasizing the history of the Nursing Journey and the scenario academic in the first years of the course. She stressed that the event was "part of the commemorations of the national nursing week, promoted by the Brazilian Nursing Association, awakening in students the interest in participating in actions related to the celebration that takes place in various areas of the area, helping them in construction, not only technical-scientific, but also political and valuing the profession”.

Simone Passos stressed that “the meeting is a possibility for bringing together nursing professionals who already have different experiences in various fields of activity, discussing and presenting their life and profession stories. This inspires the student to take new walks”. According to the coordinator, “it is also a moment of celebration, as it is 11 years of the Nursing course and there is a meeting of people from many institutions, which strengthens the course within the Bahiana".

Ana Shirley also pointed out the influence of the journey for students: "The event is very important for students to get closer to the job market, viewing professionals who talk about what they are doing today in their professional performance."

The opening lecture was given by professor and nurse Climene Laura de Camargo who addressed several topics - diversity in nursing and highlighted the relevance of the profession for people who do not have access to basic health, as well as the role of nurses in improving conditions of this population. He also mentioned the UFBA research project “Crescer” in which he participates and which is developed on several fronts in the social sphere.

Climene Camargo described the event as “a moment of reflection to understand the importance of nursing and the range of possibilities it gives people”. One of these biases, which is even the professor's line of research, is aimed at quilombola communities.

She explained how nursing work helps in the process of raising awareness of this social layer, educating quilombo residents in everyday areas. The observance of the use of proper shoes to avoid contamination in the places close to where they live, since the streets are not paved, was one of the examples mentioned. In addition to mentioning that professional care helps, in a very significant way, to alleviate physical pain, especially in sick patients.

Composing the morning program, the event also featured the presentation of the Angels of Nursing and the round table: Areas of performance of the nurse. Presentations of work and research groups and short courses were part of the afternoon shift activities.

On Saturday, the cultural moment with Femineja, the roundtable: nursing in the field of research, the meeting of graduates, the presentation of academic leagues and extension projects closed the X Jornada script.

According to student Amanda Emily de Paula Cerqueira, from the 1st semester of Nursing at Bahiana, “The Nursing Journey was very interesting, especially for freshmen, because it was possible to have contact with the experience of those who are already in the market and get to know the areas of expertise. Many people who enter the course have a wrong view of what can be done and there are a multitude of options." Considers the student who was interested in most of the topics explained.

Student Juliana Souza, in the 7th semester of the course, reported that it was from the lecture that she realized that “nursing can explore fields that had no dimension, such as sustainable actions”. She highlighted that she intends to adopt in her professional performance some social policies and more humanized practices, points that were discussed in the X Jornada.
