Charanga, mascot, claw, joy and a lot of unity! Whoever was at Campus Cabula last Saturday, April 28, followed one of the most energetic events promoted by the Medicine course: GINBAH – Gymkhana da Bahiana –, which aimed to promote the teaching of Human Morphology and First Aid through playful and dynamic activities, with a solidary character as a backdrop.

The teams were divided by colors and formed through a draw involving classes A and B of the 1st semester of Medicine. The union came soon, and what would be just an identification color, immediately gained a name: Gemma (yellow), Cianoticos (blue), Vipers (green) and Dalí (red). The white man went to the organizing committee, made up of First Aid monitors, the Morphofunctional Sciences Group (GCM), professors André Zimmermann and Maria Suzana Araújo, respectively, the teaching coordinators of these two curricular components and professor Luiza Ribeiro, coordinator of Developing people.

History – Solidarity Gymkhana

The first Gymkhana of Bahiana with Medicine students it happened when the course was still working at the former Nazaré Academic Unit. Teachers André and Suzana tell that, at the time, Salvador was going through heavy rains that caused landslides with collapse of houses. In order to provide relief to people affected by bad weather, the two teachers held a scavenger hunt, with the objective of collecting food and essential utensils. That's why, at that time, the name was Solidarity Gymkhana. "We also had fun activities and tasks to support learning," adds Zimmermann.

GINBAH

On April 12th, the opening of GINBAH – Gymkhana da Bahiana –, when the teams were divided and presented to tests that would be evaluated in the second moment. The division took place through a draw involving students from classes A and B of the 1st semester of Medicine.
The elaboration of the tasks was in charge of a commission formed by the academic supervisors of the monitors, then responsible for coordinating each test.

The tests focused on teaching first aid and human morphology, correlated to clinical practice, a point that participants will see later in the course.

"The gymkhana had the objective of stimulating, in the students, study and learning, through play, linked to the solidarity character, having as one of the tests the collection of food", points out Rafael Carneiro de Lélis, student of the 5th semester of Medicine and GCM monitor.

According to Rafael, the awards varied between extra points in assessments, in the case of the First Aid curriculum component and in GCMoneys for Biomorphology. GCMoneys will help students achieve extra points in the curriculum component. In addition to the scavenger hunt, the "coin" can be obtained through junior tutoring, guided study activities and scientific sessions. To get the extra score, students must accumulate 100 GCmoneys.

In addition to the fun, the scavenger hunt also drew attention to the importance of participating in academic tutoring. Gabriel Miranda de Santana, 2nd semester student and First Aid monitor, tells about his experience until he came to monitor: "During the first semester, I felt that the First Aid curriculum component gave me an opportunity to have contact with the patient. So, having entered college, taking the course I wanted and having that moment to help save a life was very important. It was my first contact as a freshman. I took this desire, this desire to be in monitoring until the end of the first semester, which was when I participated in the selection process, I passed and today I am in monitoring".

About the scavenger hunt, he confesses that he did not expect to have this type of activity in his life after joining college. "It wasn't part of my plans to participate in a scavenger hunt, but I've always liked this atmosphere of union, because the scavenger hunt, above all, generates a unity among the students, not only in the first semester, but in everyone else with us: monitors, In short, I think it's a time to come together and emphasize learning, both in human functional morphology and in first aid."

Luiz Ricardo Cerqueira, a student in the first semester of Medicine and a participant at GanBAH, says that he never imagined participating in a competition after entering the University. "I thought I was going to get into a course that would have study all the time, that would have some fun times, but the scavenger hunt was really a really good idea." Luiz highlights as positive points of the initiative the possibility of learning by playing, but he also emphasizes integration, "because classes A and B that almost never meet at college were united. This was very important, especially at the beginning of the course."

Clarissa Gonzaga da Hora Malheiros, first semester of Medicine, also addresses the importance of using play to reinforce learning. "I didn't expect to participate in a scavenger hunt. I knew that here at Bahiana humanization is highly valued, and we would not just use the classroom with the teacher speaking. I knew we would use the laboratories and tutoring a lot, things that we don't see in other more traditional courses, but this competition was very good, because it managed to unite us." She also points out the importance of the medical student participating in the tutoring. " I love tutoring, I think they help a lot, especially for people who have just entered college. I think about doing a lot of tutoring."

programming and results

After participating in the activities of Treasure Hunting, Mistakes Game, Proof of 9 and Morphofunctional Circuits and First Aid, in the morning shift, all over the Cabula Campus, it was the turn of the teams that gathered in Auditorium 1 to present the tasks of stage distributed at the opening of the Gymkhana. The dean of the Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, Professor of Medical Psychology and CEDETE manager, Antonio Carlos Costa, the NAPP manager, Angélica Mendes and Andréa Gonçalves, manager of the Campus Cabula canteen.

The first task was “School Bahiana de Belas Artes”, in which each team had to make a presentation, justifying the choice of their name, showing their mascot and the battle cry. Then, in "My Parents Are First Aiders", each team would have to be represented by two parents of students who would participate in a simulation of first aid. In the task "Parody of knowledge", students used songs already known to the general public, with the development of original lyrics, showing their knowledge of the two curricular components. In the task "A good son returns home", the teams had to take two former monitors who had already graduated from the Bahiana to speak a little about your experience when monitors. Finally, and not least, the task "The last passenger" was carried out, in which the four teams, in queues, had to save their components by correcting knowledge questions in the two areas (First Aid and Human Morphology).
