* Elsevier (of Dutch origin, pronounced Élzêvier) is one of the oldest and most respected publishing houses in the world in the areas of Science, Technology and Health.
The first records of the name Elsevier date back to 1580 when Louis Elsevier created in Leiden an establishment for printing, binding and selling books. Adopted since 1620 and recognized in several countries, the Elsevier logo features three figures, each symbolizing a virtue: the Tree of Life represents Experience, the vine represents Knowledge and the wise, Wisdom. Without the tree to support it, the vine does not bear fruit. The "fruit of Experience" leads to Knowledge and it is by tasting this fruit that Wisdom is obtained. The strong symbiosis between these three symbols is represented by the Latin phrase Non-Solus (not alone).
The history of Elsevier in Brazil is linked to the trajectory of Campus – a successful partnership that began in August 1976, when Editora Campus was created, and which was added in 2002 with the acquisition of the Negócios and Alegro labels.
The publishing house was born from the union of talented authors and a team that has always been personally involved with modern and innovative solutions that value their works. Committed to keeping the public up to date, Elsevier makes available the best print and digital content connected with the latest news.
