OUR DEAR PROF. URBINO TUNES AMONG THE HONORS OF 2010, ELECTED BY THE FEDERAL COUNCIL OF DENTISTRY, WHO WILL RECEIVE THE MEDAL OF HONOR FOR NATIONAL DENTAL MERIT

In item A, referring to “professional contribution, in the fields of science, whether in research, teaching or services”, the chosen ones are the dentists José Dilson Vasconcelos de Menezes (CRO-CE-01), Maria Evangelina Monnerat ( CRO-RJ-2000) and URBINO DA ROCHA TUNES (CRO-BA-904). 

For the “honorific contribution, in terms of social and political performance” (item B), the names are Antônio Carlos Figueiredo Nardi (CRO-PR-4730) and CD-Maria Leonília de Freitas (CRO-PI-164).

For those who provided “meritable contribution, in the area of ​​material donation and/or dental works, highly significant to society, as well as relevant services” (item C), the chosen one was senator Ideli Salvatti (PT-SC). In this category, the honorees can be dentistry professionals or not.

Responsible for evaluating the CVs of candidates sent by the Regional Councils, and electing for the six vacancies in this edition, the Medal of Honor Committee for Dental Merit is composed of the following dentists: Ermensson Luiz Jorge (president:); Spyro Nicolau Spyrides (secretary); Messias Gambôa de Melo, Orlins Santana de Oliveira, Waldir Gonçalves, Eliardo Silveira Santos and Delmo Tavares (members).

The delivery will be made during the anniversary ceremony of the Dental Councils, on April 23, in Rio de Janeiro.

The names were released through Ordinance CFO 36-2010, dated 10 March.

O Prof. Urbino da Rocha Tunis graduated in Dentistry from the Federal University of Bahia / UFBA, Master's in Clinical Dentistry from UFBA and Ph.D. in Immunology-Postgraduate Program in Immunology from UFBA - Institute of Health Sciences.

Specialized in Periodontics (ABO/BA-UFBA), Social Periodontics from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC/USA), in Higher Education Methodology (UFBA) and Stomatology (CFO); Improvement in Dental Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC/USA). Adjunct Professor IV (retired) at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and is currently Full Professor in the Periodontics area of ​​the Dentistry course at BAHIANA; minister of the Brazilian Dental Association / Bahia and the Brazilian Dental Association / Sergipe.

In the administrative area, he was Director of the Faculty of Dentistry at UFBA and is Coordinator of the Graduate and Postgraduate Course in Dentistry at BAHIANA, chairing the Proper Evaluation Committee (CPA), having also been a member of the Research Ethics Committee (CEP).

He presided over the Brazilian Dental Association / Bahia Section (1973-1975; 1982-1985) as well as several national congresses of the profession. He has experience in teaching, management and clinical practice in the field of Dentistry, with an emphasis on Periodontics, acting on the following topics: etioimmunopathogenesis of periodontal disease, chronic periodontitis, medical periodontics, periodontal tissue bioengineering.
