RESEARCH PROJECT SUBMISSION PROCESS AND CLASS TEMPLATES INVOLVING EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública (EBMSP) maintains teaching and research activities involving laboratory animals such as mice, rats and rabbits. It is part of the Institution's ethical policy, in line with international and national standards, to maintain an Ethics Committee for the Use of Laboratory Animals (CEUA), whose basic functions are to guide the practice of the use of animals in such a way that this can happen when essentially necessary and maintain the health and well-being of these animals.

For this, CEUA meets monthly and evaluates the projects submitted by the Institution's professors/researchers. After the evaluation, permission is granted or not for them to develop in a way that there is no unnecessary or inappropriate use of animals. It should be noted that all those responsible for animal practices (classes or research) must submit their work protocols before they are carried out. This prevents inappropriate actions from being taken and also maintains the ethical commitment of the Bahiana.

To submit a project, the interested party must fill in the attached form and send it to the CEUA secretariat, which is located in the Academic Unit de Brotas, at the Psychology School-Clinic, under the care of Ms. Erida Almeida. Each project will be sent to a CEUA member or consultants Ad Hoc, who will then give their opinion in a plenary. The results will be sent through the Institution's pouch to the proponent, in their Academic Unit of origin.
