SELECTIVE FORMATIVE PROCESS OF BAHIANA IS DISCUSSED AT BREAKFAST

With a participatory approach, the BAHIANA it received, on the morning of April 30th, dozens of school and course leaders from Salvador and the Metropolitan Region. The meeting, which began with breakfast, aimed to discuss the inclusion of the Medicine course in the Training Selection Process, an innovative method adopted by Bahiana for the entry of new students into their undergraduate courses.

On the occasion, the new methodology was presented, in detail, which has, mainly, the objective of identifying individuals with a refined critical sense and capable of applying the acquired knowledge in the contemporary context. In addition, the process itself helps the candidate in his self-assessment, with regard to the vocational issue.

For this, two evaluation moments are carried out: an experiential one, in which the candidates experience situations similar to their practical professional life. At this stage, the presence of the candidate is mandatory, but no grade or grade is given. It's also time to get to know the structure of the Bahiana, get in touch with teachers, coordinators and educators and ask questions. “What we are looking for is that these students can bring what they really learned in high school. In no way do we want to encourage memorization", declared, at the time, the director of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luiza Carvalho Soliani.

In a second moment, objective and subjective theoretical evaluations are carried out, with questions that contemplate the knowledge acquired during high school, but in an integrated manner and according to a thematic axis. “The philosophy of our Training Selection Process is that we work with these students on issues that will be fundamental in their training”, explains Soliani.

The Formative Selection Process of Bahiana was prepared by Consultec, a consolidated company in the consulting segment of educational projects and competitions and carried out for the first time in 2009.1 for courses in Biomedicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Psychology and Occupational Therapy, achieving success and approval by students and the teachers. 

The big news for the next edition is the inclusion of the Medicine course in the new methodology. As it has a very large number of competitors, the Medicine course has a differentiated format in the Formative Selection Process, which will consist of two phases (details in the Notice soon on the website).

For the vice-director of Colégio Cândido Portinari, Selma Brito, “this is already happening. We are moving from an exclusion model to an inclusion model. And it's not schools but colleges that have anticipated making a top-down shift. This proposal has already been discussed in our pedagogical process. With this change in philosophy and perspective, we can see the beginning of innovations that we will have to take care of going forward.”

The meeting also enabled the presentation of the internal research that evaluated the Formative Selection Process among students who participated in the first edition.

In addition, the Marketing Coordinator at Bahiana, Regina Carvalho, presented the 2009.2 Training Selection Process Hot Site. The page provides information about the School's undergraduate courses, exams, and video interviews with students from the Bahiana who have gone through the new selection method.
