O Center for Integrative and Complementary Practices of Bahiana (CEPICS) It was created in 2018 and includes various professors, students, alumni, and collaborators from... Bahiana and external partners, members of RECEPICS-BA (a network of integrative practice centers). Since then, it has carried out several teaching and extension actions, raising awareness among the academic community and care practices, both in institutional spaces and at the Municipal Health Department of Salvador, with the Caring for PICS program, in addition to being present at internal and external.

Integrative and Complementary Practices (PICS) seek to stimulate natural mechanisms for preventing health problems and recovering health through effective and safe technologies, with an emphasis on welcoming listening, on the development of therapeutic bonds, on the integration of human beings with the environment. /society and guidance for self-care.
 
CEPICS in 2025 

In 2025, CEPICS expanded its actions through new partnerships, academic activities, and participation in strategic networks and events focused on Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS).

New partnerships and engagement in public spaces

In partnership with the PET Health Equity Intertwining Project for the appreciation of current and future health workers, from the Ministry of Health, and with the support of:

  •  Salvador Municipal Health Department (SMS);
  •  Salvador School of Public Health (ESPS);
  •  Cairu College;

New perspectives on working with PICS have been developed:

  •  in the public spaces of Salvador;
  •  at state and local events;
  •  in planned long-term actions between the institutions involved.

Expansion of activities in undergraduate programs

With the integration of extension activities into the curriculum, new subjects were included in undergraduate programs, which required the planning of a new curricular component, Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health, offered in 2025.1 and 2025.2 for the Biomedicine, Nursing, and Physiotherapy courses.

Expansion of the number of beneficiaries

The actions carried out in 2025 significantly increased the number of beneficiaries of CEPICS, especially with the expansion of services at events such as the 5th May of PICS, held in 2025 during JOBA and the PICS Tent at the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana.

This year, the 5th PICS May event was held throughout the state of Bahia and featured various in-person and online activities from CEPICS.

Participation in networking in Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS)

CEPICS maintained a leading role in the RedePICS Brasil and Rede PICS BA networks. Contributions included:

  • Provision of online space (Zoom) for regular meetings of the PICS BA Network;
  • support in coordinating management groups;
  • Strengthening the networks of actors, practitioners, and training institutions in Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS);
  • Actions in favor of implementing the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PNPIC) and the State Policy on Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PEPIC).

Support for municipal public policies

CEPICS participated in:

  • process of developing the Municipal Policy for Integrative and Complementary Health Practices in Salvador;
  • Support for the PICS Thematic Field of the Salvador Municipal Health Department.

Participation in the organization of the 5th CONGREPICS

Since March 2025, CEPICS has actively participated in the organizing committee of the 5th CONGREPICS through various inter-institutional collaborations. The event is recognized as the largest PICS congress in the country.

Most of the numbers for teachers and students are approximate, since activities conducted through videos available on YouTube reach a broad audience, albeit with less interaction.
