The scientific journals of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública they gain more and more prominence with their indexing in a database of high international recognition, thus integrating the list of publications with excellent scientific qualification. Collected and made available for free on the portal Bahiana Journals, journals are an important source of data, with articles of a quantitative and qualitative nature, in a worldwide context of evidence-based research.

The productions that bear the brand of Bahiana can be accessed by different audiences from different segments. In addition, for the journals to be recognized by scientific entities, the indexing bodies needed to support the quality, transparency and integrity of these journals.

"Receiving this recognition is proof of the serious and qualified work we have developed in the Bahiana, in addition to increasing the institution's visibility as a participant in the worldwide movement for the dissemination and dissemination of scientific knowledge", describes the professor and manager of the Scientific Communication Nucleus of Bahiana Katia Sa. She explains that, through external evaluation committees and indicators and targets, these entities carefully analyze and select the journals that will be indexed. These bodies play a fundamental role in the technological development of Information and Communication Sciences, as knowledge has been shared and expanded through scientific collaboration networks, which promotes, as can be seen in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic , a universal effort to advance science and consolidate a knowledge society.

“Scientific knowledge today is also monitored by lay people and not just scientists. Society, in general, is interested in accessing and keeping up-to-date on the most reliable information. Mainly, in a world of 'post-truth' and 'liquid society', people need access to reliable knowledge”, emphasizes Kátia Sá.

According to the manager of the NUCC, "scientific journals that use resources to guarantee the integrity of the scientific information they disseminate have become the most reliable means in this contemporary scenario." Thus, journals have become the main means of communication between researchers and scientists from all over the world and the main vehicle for disseminating research findings. The Journal of Physiotherapy Research (JPR), indexed in 2016 in DOAJ and in 2018 in LILACS, published in Bahiana Journals and whose editor is Kátia Sá herself, reflects well the purpose of helping to boost the development of science so that it remains at the service of society in the most qualified, transparent and efficient way possible.

In addition to the Revista Pesquisa em Physiotherapy (RPF), the Bahiana owns the journals Revista Psicologia, Diversidade e Saúde (RPDS), Journal of Evidence-Based Healthcare (Evidence), International Journal of Education and Health (IJEH), Journal of Contemporary Nursing (JCN). All the journals cited were published in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The RPF and RPDS were also indexed in the Virtual Library of Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS). The Journal of Dentistry and Public Health (Dentistry) is part of the institution's group of scientific journals, a journal focused on scientific production in the field of Dentistry.

Professor Mônica Daltro understands that having a wide-ranging periodical produced by Bahiana is very relevant for the recognition of the scientific potential of the Northeast. "At Revista Psicologia, Diversidade e Saúde (RPDS), we receive articles, national and international, so we have a well-known journal”, explains the professor and editor-in-chief of the magazine. The RPDS, indexed in 2015 in the DOAJ, was included in the LILACS database in 2020 and has the specificity of being a psychology journal at the interface with health sciences, focusing on articles of a qualitative nature. Mônica Daltro reveals that the publications are studies that are extremely relevant to the contemporary world as they highlight the subjective productions and singularities of the area. In this regard, Kátia Sá also adds that the institution's participation in the global movement in favor of open science is a confirmation of the mission of the Bahiana: “We help to take the knowledge produced in teaching, research and extension institutions across the country and the world to the whole of society”.
